What Is the Difference Between Formal Education and Early Childhood Education?

Education is the systematic process of helping people acquire knowledge, skills, behaviors, ideas, values, beliefs, and personal attitudes necessary for learning and successful life outcomes. Education includes the processes that help develop learners’ skills and knowledge through the active participation of students, parents and teachers; curriculum development and implementation; testing and assessment; research and evaluation; and supervising the education process. The process of education has many components, such as cultural diversity, social class and identity, academic disciplines, teaching methods, teaching strategies, interpersonal communication skills and reinforcement. In United States, the Education Department and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are responsible for the production of millions of scientific researchers and the improvement of public health and medical care.

Informal education refers to instruction provided in the classroom or informal settings, such as day care and home day care, and school after school programs. Informal education delivers important content in the form of text, pictures, sound, and video. These medium to help build students’ knowledge through the active involvement of students and teachers, and the practice of various forms of communication. The curriculum and instructional materials used in informal education are often less structured and have a much more social nature than formal education.

Another difference between formal education and informal education is that formal education usually focuses on learning through the use of textbooks, reading, writing and repeating information learned from the teacher. Informal education on the other hand, takes place at the heart of the learner’s experience in the actual world, through living. It includes the observation, evaluation and application of knowledge from the real world to the student’s knowledge at the end of the day. It requires that the learner to apply what he or she has learned in real-world situations to their daily lives and evaluate how they have applied that knowledge. This process is the very basis of the whole education experience, and is an essential part of the natural development of humans.
